Esther Hicks is an American inspirational speaker and best-selling author. She has co-authored nine books with her husband Jerry Hicks, presents workshops on the Law of Attraction and appeared in the first release of the film The Secret. The Hickses' books, including the best-selling series The Law of Attraction, are according to Esther Hicks based on translations of thought she says she channels from a group of non-physical entities called Abraham (Hicks describes what she is doing as tapping into "infinite intelligence"). Hay House, Inc. published the Hickses' best-selling book, Ask and It is Given, in 2004. Since that book they have also published four more New York Times Best-sellers: The Law of Attraction, The Astonishing Power of Emotions, The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent, and Money and the Law of Attraction: Learning to Attract Health, Wealth & Happiness which ranked #1 two weeks after its release in August 2008. A fictional series of childrens' books, Sara I, II, and III, are also available. Several of their books were translated into Spanish, French, German and Dutch. Esther
Hicks was born in Coalville, Utah. She married her current husband, Jerry
Hicks, in 1980 and has one daughter by her former marriage. Esther Hicks claims that non-physical entities called Abraham speak through her, and that her teachings (referred to as AbrahamHicks teachings) are based on this experience. The basic tenets of the teachings include that we create our own reality through our thoughts, that our emotions are constantly guiding us toward where we want to go, and that life is supposed to be fun. The essence of AbrahamHicks' teachings since 1986 has been presented as follows: *
You are a physical extension of that which is non-physical. Esther Hicks was a narrator and star of the original version of the film The Secret. Hicks earned over $500,000 for her work and was reportedly a central source of the film's inspiration. However, the footage featuring Hicks was removed from the later "Extended Edition" after a conflict between Hicks and the film's creator Rhonda Byrne. The conflict is reported as being primarily about intellectual property rights and money. Hicks claims she did not receive a fair share of the film's profits. AbrahamHicks Publications has subsequently posted a video on YouTube which explains Hicks' decision to discontinue her involvement with The Secret. |
