When we give freely, we are telling the Universe that we have no fear of lack and that we truly believe that abundance will flow into the space created by our giving.

I'll bet you gave a Valentine's gift to someone last Sunday. So let me ask you a basic question about giving. Are you a giver or a taker?

When it comes to your community do you give or take? Do you say to yourself, "I paid my fees, rates or taxes" ... deal over ... and you reduce everything to a commercial transaction?

Your community is like your family. It is there to nurture you and to give everyone in the community the best quality of life we can.

Too many people whine about "They should do this or that" ... well, guess what .... you are part of "They". Giving back to your community through community service, charitable donations, and volunteering makes you part of the solution.

When you give back to the community, you'll feel like you are making a difference in the world, one act at a time.

Caring for one another is a human responsibility that we have for each other. In New Thought we talk about Oneness. But too often we practice the separation of "them and us". And you justify the separation with "I paid my fees, rates or taxes" .

Giving back to your community makes you feel connected to those around you. If you are unable to actively participate during a season due to other commitments, give financial support to help organisations that reach out on a regular basis to those in need.

Think about some of the people and organisations that selflessly give to you. What have you given back? And don't answer "I paid my fees, rates or taxes"!

Most of us are blessed to have the ability, time and funds able to help others. But we sit back and don't. Or we wait be be begged.

Giving back sometimes requires that you put others before yourself ... you do that with close family (I hope), so why not stretch it to the community "family" that provides nurturing and services for you?

Today is your opportunity to not just talk the talk ... but to walk the walk of Oneness. If life is just about commercial transactions, you've missed the point of Oneness ... you are in Me-ness. So walk into the awareness of Oneness today and feel your inner strength grow.

Self-Reflection Questions:
1. How has your community helped you become who you are?

2. Does your city have a community service calendar where you can volunteer?

3. Is there a community organisation that you can support financially?

Learn from others' experience ....
The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving.
~ Albert Einstein

Do not stand on a high pedestal and take 5 cents in your hand and say, "Here, my poor man", but be grateful that the poor man is there, so by making a gift to him you are able to help yourself. It is not the reciever that is blessed, but it is the giver. Be thankful that you are allowed to exercise your power of benevolence and mercy in the world, and thus become pure and perfect.
~ Swami Vivekananda
