In our class meditations, I invariably mention breathing easily and effortlessly. Not just because it calms you and moves you away from stress and into deeper relaxation. The reason I mention it is that breathing is the greatest gift you've been given.

You can live without everything else - even water for a time - but you can't live without breath for but a few minutes. So we need to acknowledge and nurture the gift of breath. It is what connects you to your Source.

When you enjoy breathing effortlessly and deeply, you disperse serenity through your body. You are breathing in new life and breathing out - letting go - of the old stuff that no longer serves you.

In the morning, when you go outdoors, breathe in the freshness of the morning. Feel your body cleansing as fresh air flows through it. Breathe with ease. Pause and listen to the air flowing in and out of your body.

On days when your schedule keeps you going at a fast pace, relaxed breathing helps you to be more productive and energized. Sending oxygen to your brain maximizes your brainpower.  You feel connected ... in the zone.

Take a few moments each day to concentrate on your breath. Breathe in power and blow out stress. Breathing in the new ... and breathing out the old ..... what a gift.

Self-Reflection Questions:
1. Do you appreciate the real gifts that you've been given?

2. What exercises can you do to increase your consciousness through breathing?

3. Do you take time to meditate?

Learn from others' experience ....
When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady. But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath.
~Svatmarama, Hatha Yoga Pradipika

If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance.
