From Dr. Barry Pierce Mon. 22nd December, 2008

The Gift

This is the time of year when we can't help but do self assessments ... or New Year's Resolutions as we call them. Here's the thing ... most of us make our resolutions about what we don't want. You may not say "I don't want to be overweight" - you probably say "I want to be slim. Where is the focus? The emotion and need is on what you don't want. And that is what you energise and empower.

How do you make that resolution become an achievement?

Make it a statement about benefits. Why do you want to be slim (as the example)? Is it "I love feeling energetic?" Is it "I like having men (or women) watch me as I walk down the street?" Is it "I love having so many clothes and styles to choose from?"

It is not enough to just say you want to change something. You must discover the positive passion behind that need. Even if it is "I feel more confident and more in tune with myself". Find the passion and you've found your New Year's Achievement.

The Gift of Giving

I want to thank the many New Thought people who made this year wonderful for us ... whether it be feedback from the Newsletter or the brilliant lights who attend our Monday night group.

Thank you for your support in what has been a challenging year for me. Your ability to drive when I wasn't there has enriched us all. With all challenges comes growth and I know that there will be growth next year as we follow our passion - together.

The group's generousity has seen $500 donated to the Green Gekko Project in Cambodia to educate and care for street children to give them a future. And $500 to the Ashley Kaimowitz Fund through Rotary to help child rape victims with aids in Africa.

You will most likely never meet the children whose lives you have helped transform. And that is the true nature of selfless giving.

NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE OR WHAT YOU THINK YOU HAVE OR HAVE NOT DONE THIS YEAR ... YOU HAVE CHANGED LIVES.

The truth is that there is no "Season of Giving" as Christmas is often called. You live a life of giving, even when you are not conscious of it.

As Khalil Gibran said “You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”

Thank you for your gifts of self and have a happy, safe holiday. Barry, Shirley & Meagan
